In 1953, KBJ designed Florida’s first high-rise office building for the Prudential Insurance Company of America.  The original facility, constructed in 1955, was available for extensive retrofitting in 1985 when the new Operations Center opened. KBJ conducted a study of the upgrades required to prepare it to remain a first class office facility for the next 30 years.  The design and construction project encompassed the entire building, from top to bottom, inside and out.

Elements of the program included extensive rework of the exterior curtain wall; new roof systems; major replacement of electrical system components; new finishes on the executive and office floors including floor and wall covering, ceilings and lights; replacement of the elevators and cabs; reconstruction of the food service operation; remodeling of the public lobby; and redesign of the exterior plazas and landscaping, with the addition of new parking.

One of the striking building features is the new grand stair, which provides convenient access to the second floor public areas and enhances the colonnaded lobby.
