Srudent Resident Facility     University of South Florida, St. Petersburg, Florida
KBJ Architects entered a Design/Build competition for a multi-level student residence facility for the University of South Florida in St. Petersburg and was recently awarded the project. The project is located in a strategic location on campus and will serve as the outer layer between the core campus and the adjacent community. The building is designed to be responsive to the community it faces and to the student body that it supports.

The character of the building is illustrated by a stepped backed design for each bay. This stepped design aides in breaking the horizontal length of the building and provides for a more pedestrian scale at the street level. The intent of the colors of the individual bays is to recognize and further enhance the individuality of each bay and provide a better sense of place to those that use the space and its surroundings. The residence facility will also help to provide a backdrop for outdoor student learning and activities
